Seniors & Special Needs

Senior pets and pets with disabilities may have special needs, which we'll dive into here to best prepare every pet parent for eternal condition-free love.

Let's start with what is inevitable for all life - age.

As your pets age, certain bodily functions may not be as performing healthily - including but not limited to: vision, joints, oral, and skin.  Consistent veterinarian visits and a healthy diet can help prolong your pet's overall health as they age, but there are also products designed to help.

From beds, to bowls, to toys - there are specialized products recommended for senior dogs.  Orthopedic beds, like the BINGOPAW Orthopedic Large Dog Bolster Bed, provide additional support.  Heated pads like the FURRYBABY Pet Heating Pad may be used to provide extra comfort and improve blood circulation for those aging muscles.  Angled or elevated bowls, such as the PETKIT Adjustable Ergonomic Pet Bowl Set, provide your pet with a more natural angle for improved posture and better digestion.  Toys are specially designed to be suitable for the aging teeth and claws of your pet, like the PLAYOLOGY Silver Dental Chew Stick Senior Dog Chew Toy.  Last but not least, you may want to supplement their diet with joint support products (not sold here).  Like people, one day your pet could need diapers too.

Then we have what is (thankfully) far less common - pets with disabilities due to serious accidents, health issues, or even abuse.  Now we will be the first to tell you, there are far better professional resources to follow to find the specific care you need for your special pet.  All we really want to share is a reminder that having a disability does not mean they can't enjoy their life and having been abused does not mean they cannot trust again.  If you can afford it, get pet insurance early in your pet's life to best prepare for what the future may hold.  Too often are pet owner's forced to relinquish their pets due to unaffordable vet fees from unforeseen events - but while we cannot prevent accidents, we can be prepared for them.
